Motion Sensors - Optical are specialized devices primarily used to detect movement and changes in the surrounding environment. These sensing devices utilize light, often in the form of infrared wavelengths, to perceive motion around them. The primary function of these sensors is to provide automated, real-time data about the movement of objects or people in their field of vision. They are key components utilized in a wide range of applications such as security systems, automatic doors, lighting systems, and robotics. Because of their function, they are designed to operate with precision, sensitivity, and quick response.
Optical motion sensors are commonly tailored for specific applications. For instance, in security systems, they are configured to trigger alARMs when unexpected movements are detected. In automatic lighting systems, they're designed to switch lights on and off based on occupancy detection in the area. The main characteristics that define these devices are their sensitivity, range, and the angle of coverage. The specificity of these features often depends on the manufacturer and the intended application. Some renowned manufacturers in the field include Honeywell, Omron, Panasonic, and Siemens.
